Primorye lies on
the eastern edge of Eurasia, the Earth’s largest continent, and on the
western coast of the Pacific, the Earth’s largest ocean. At the same time,
it is in the south of the temperate zone of the Northern hemisphere,
its meridian being considerably extended southward. Primorye’s geographic
position determines the amount and distribution of solar radiation in the
area and, consequently, the warming of the earth’s surface, duration of
day and night hours, and circulation of air masses. Due to its southerly
position, daytime lasts nearly 16 h in summer, and 8 h in winter.
This brings considerably more sunshine in wintertime as compared
with that in Russia’s northern regions.
